Rick Perry's Strong
This is a perfect example of how right wingers are ruining our country and world. They want to stick to their traditional views and don't want to change them just because that's just how they were taught and how it's been done in the past. If there's a better way to do something, you need to change.

Richard Dawkins letter to his 10 year old daughter
Three bad reasons for believing something - tradition, authority, and revelation. Three good reasons for believing something - observation, evidence, and test.
Richard Dawkins letter to his 10 year old daughter (how to warn your child about this irrational world)
Religion has been passed on and still exists in this world because of tradition, authority, and revelation. The chances of someone being a different religion than their parents are slim to none. You believe what you are told and in the case of religion this begins soon after you are born, before you can think for yourself and your mind is impressionable. If you were never taught your religion, you would never know about your religion. If intelligent life was wiped from the Earth tomorrow and then evolved again over billions of years, there would be nothing like the religions we know today. Religion itself may exist because the new species would try to explain the world around them before they reach the age of science, but a religion that exists today would never be heard of again, frankly because the information couldn't be passed on. Keep in mind that once the new species reaches the age of science and technology, they would discover the same laws of the universe, the same age of the Earth, etc. that we have. So how does religion begin?
The earliest humans thought the Sun, stars, and planets were gods watching down on them, simply because they didn't know any better. The story began there and evolved into the hundreds of different religions that exist today. Just like a game of telephone, the story at the end is different than how it began, but in this case people intentionally changed the story to fit their observations and needs. How can you say that your religion is more true than any other? We know truths by observing, gathering evidence, and then testing that evidence to make sure it is true, not making up stories to try and explain the world we can't understand. For example, I can prove the earth orbits the sun about every 365 days or the age of the earth is 4.54 billion years old using evidence from the observations myself and the humans before me have made using technology. This information has not been passed on because of the three previous "bad reasons", but rather evidence from observation of our reality which proves these facts to be true. Up until the late 16th century, everyone believed the Earth was the center of the Solar System because they simply made observations and explained them the best they could. We now know that the Earth and the rest of the planets orbit the Sun, the Sun orbits around the center of our Milky Way galaxy, and our galaxy orbits around the center of mass in our Local Group.
No truthful human knowledge is passed on just because our ancestors believed it(tradition), our President tell us(authority), or because it was reveled to someone as they sat in a room and pondered for the answer(revelation), but rather, our true knowledge has been enlightened and passed on because of science, our knowledge gained by systematic study.
